How to Beat the Summer Heat in Florida

How to Beat the Summer Heat in Florida

I can’t lie to you, summers in Florid a are hot! The humidity is high, the temperature is hot, and it is easily possible to break a sweat walking from your house to your car.  The summer humidity gets as high as 75% while the temperatures move into the 90’s.

As a Florida resident for 44 years I have plenty of tips for you to enjoy yourself in Florida during the summer months.   What amenities your home has, will determine how you live day to day and through the seasons.   Here are some tips to make Florida living easier.

Go To The Beach, there are plenty

How to Beat the Florida Heat

Florida and particularly the Tampa Bay area is surrounded by water and the most beautiful beaches you can dream of….

These award winning beaches with white powder sand and turquoise waters are the perfect way to cool off during the summer.  The Gulf of Mexico is calm with little to no waves, you can wade in water all day with a drink in hand. Your kids will have a blast digging and through the sand as well as playing in the water.  Don’t forget your beach umbrella, sunscreen, and water as these are absolute beach necessities during the summer.

Participate In a Water Sport…your choice

Water Sports helps beat the Florida Heat

The opportunity to get active on the water is endless.  Kayaking, standup paddle boarding, kite surfing, parasailing, jet skiing, boating, wakeboarding, and wake surfing are available.

If you don’t have your own vessel there are plenty of places to rent one.  If you have a boat, spend the day relaxing on one of the many local sandbars. Shell Key, Egmont Key, and Caladesi Island are places that will make you feel like you are in the Caribbean.  One of the coolest places to kayak or paddleboard is through the mangroves of Weedon Island preserve.

Take a Dip In the Pool…your own or others!

Buy a Pool Home to beat the Florida Heat

If you have a pool, awesome....fire up the grill while you are at it!

However, if you don’t you are not at a loss.

Many communities have community pools through the condo association and the homeowner’s association.  Also, neighbors can be friendly, they may invite you over for a splash on a regular day or invite you over for a pool party.  Grab a raft, a cold drink, and soak up the sun.

Go to a Water Park in Tampa Bay…

Consider living in water park community to beat the florida heat

The Tampa Bay area has over 40 parks with splash pads.

If you can’t make it to the beach or pool this is a great place to take the kids to run around.  If you are looking for some extra excitement head to a big water park.

Adventure Island or Legoland Water Parks are equipped with all the water fun….splash pads, waterslides, and multiple pools.  You are also about a 1.5 hour drive from the famous adventure parks in Orlando like Typhoon Lagoon. Do you dare try the body slide called the ”Humunga Kowabunga”?

Head to the Springs to Chill…

Just a few quick hours from Tampa Bay you will find many stunning crystal clear springs and spring rivers.  The average temperature of the springs is 70 degrees guaranteeing you the opportunity to cool down.

One of my favorite Springs is the Rainbow River...you can’t forget a name like that!  There you can float down the lazy river by tube while the current pushes you.  It is a great opportunity to relax and observe wildlife like birds, turtles, and otters.

Florida Weather Allows Execercising All Year Long

Exercise Outside

If you love to get some fresh air while exercising the best time to go is the early morning or evenings.  Taking a run at 2pm could send you into heat exhaustion, although you will see people do it. If you are stationary find a spot under a tree with a cool breeze or even bring a portable fan.

Beat the Summer Heat Florida

No matter what activity you participate in, there will always be summer essentials you need to protect yourself….a hat, water, and sunscreen.  Stay Hydrated!!!!
