Once a year, on the shores of beautiful Treasure Island Beach on the Gulf of Mexico, the sand came to life and created a world of fantasy and fun.
This wonder is known as Sanding Ovations. It happens on Treasure Island beach each year in November. This year it occurred on November 17th-20th with an encore weekend November 26th-27th.
This year’s theme was “Once Upon a Time” and featured magnificent sand sculptures that transformed into a land of storybook fantasies.
This masterful exhibition of sand sculpting talent at a world-class level is a huge appeal.
This year’s wonderland was created through imaginations from sculptors all over the world including Sue McGrew, Deborah Barrett-Cutulle, Melineige Beauregard, Fergus Mulvany, Meredith Corson Doubleday, Bruce Phillips, as well as local talent Meredith and Dan Doubleday.
In 2001, Florida Governor Jeb Bush proclaimed Treasure Island is the Sand Sculpture Capital of Florida.
