Is a highly desirable neighborhood along the shores of Big Bayou in St. Petersburg, Florida. it is a neighborhood full of historic homes with great stories, quiet streets, and friendly residents who love to keep the laid-back vibe of the community alive. The main entrance of the neighborhood is marked by the famous arch that leads into narrow winding road under a thick cover of old oaks. Some refer to Driftwood as the Enchanted Forest. One great perk of the lush growth besides the beauty is that it is several degrees cooler here on a hot day. 

Things to Do in and Near the Driftwood Neighborhood

Driftwood is a community full of residential homes near the water, beside accessing the water from community docks on the bayou, residents can enjoy several great spots just minutes from the neighborhood including: 

Bartlett Park 

Is a large neighborhood park at the top border of Driftwood in the adjacent neighborhood with the same name. This park features a recreation center, tennis center, playground, athletic fields, walking trails, and lake. 

Lassing Park

A large waterfront park on the bay just north of the neighborhood. This park is 14.2 acres of green space and beachfront. Come and enjoy the city's free fitness boot camp class at this park. 

Coquina Key Park

A public park right on the water on the north end of the Coquina Key Island just south or across the Bayou from Driftwood. This park features plenty of green space to spread out and enjoy fresh air, athletic fields, sport courts, a playground, picnic areas, and a dog park.

St. Pete Pier

The pier in downtown is just minutes away and is a hub of waterfront activities. The pier itself extends into Tampa Bay and is described as a landmark pleasure pier. At the pier you will find plenty of beautiful outdoor spaces for walking and fishing or just playing, with sandy beach areas, restaurants, a play structure, and the popular Discovery Center with interactive exhibits and the chance to watch marine life in gorgeous created habitats. Of course all of Downtown St. Pete is at your fingertips as well.

The tiny and almost hidden homes among the trees are all single family residences on large lots of a quarter acre or more. This is a great neighborhood for those who love the outdoors and to spend time gardening/landscaping. Homes in Driftwood began popping up in the 1930's with construction of properties designed by then local artist, Mark Dickson Dodd. These homes are the crowning jewel of the neighborhood and rarely go on the market. Each of these homes has one of his original paintings attached to a wall in the home.

The public schools serving the Driftwood neighborhood are part of the Pinellas County Public School District. Specific schools zoned for Driftwood include Lakewood Elementary School, John Hopkins Middle School, and Lakewood High School.
