More About Gibsonton
Gibsonton is a town (technically an unincorporated area) near the shores of Hillsborough Bay just a short distance south from Tampa. This town has one of the most fascinating historical stories and most interesting founding of all of the towns in Florida. Gibsonton started out as the place where carnival sideshow workers would come to vacation or winter, or spend their down time between time on the road. One man decided to put down roots and make it his full time residence and many of his carnival friends followed. It was a town full of people with interesting or "odd" skills that didn't have to feel interesting or odd in the company of people like them. It was also a town where homeowners could house wild exotic animals or an old Ferris Wheel in their yard. Today many of the original residents of the town have passed on or moved one, but there are still some hanging around along with their descendants. It is a small town with plenty of American carnival history to enjoy and a place to get to know some of the kindest and most interesting neighbors.
