More on Gulfport FloridaGulfport Homes for Sale

Known as a hidden gem in the shadow of St. Pete, Gulfport Florida has been called a funky, eclectic, and artsy locale in the heart of a small town. Nestled on the shores of Boca Ciega Bay, Gulfport is home to about 15,000 residents as part of the Tampa, St. Petersburg, and Clearwater Metro area. It's received several names since its founding back in 1884 when it was first known as Disston City. The US Postal Service would not recognize the name as it conflicted with the town in Hillsborough County and instead was named Bonifacio. In 1890, the town change the name again to Veteran City and officially in 1910 to Gulfport.

Why Love Gulfport?

This quaint little Bayside town is in the heart of everything. From warm and friendly residents to funky and "Old Florida" charm, Gulfport offers an eclectic blend of unique homes, fabulous food, and a historic downtown area situated on scenic Boca Ciega Bay. You'll find a wealth of shops and boutiques, home decor and restaurants, salons and spas and a concentration of more than a dozen restaurants in the downtown village area has made Gulfport a premier dining destination.

Best places to eat in Gulfport

Gulfport is known as a dining destination so it's no secret that the downtown village area has some of the best food in the Tampa Metro area.

Salty's Sandwich Bar – clearly the best sandwiches in town. Just about all the restaurants are located right downtown off of Beach Boulevard which starts at the bay and runs north through town. Here's will you find the majority of restaurants, shops, and markets. From Divine Deviled Eggs to fried pickles, buffalo wings and of course their famous sandwiches, you can't go wrong with a sandwich at Salty's.

O Maddy's Bar & GrilleThis unique local restaurant has delicious seafood, steaks, build your own pizza and fabulous salads. It's a great fine dining/casual restaurant in the heart of downtown.

Neptune Grill – is located right on the coast and features a fabulous Sunday brunch, delicious Greek food, and Mediterranean fair. Our favorites include the lemon chicken soup, fish tacos, spinach pie platter, moussaka, and seafood Mediterranean.

Stella's - Possibly some of the best breakfasts and blood he marries in the Tampa area. Located right on Beach Boulevard, many people tell this brunch favorite as the best breakfast spot in town. You'll find fabulous benedicts, hashes, pancakes and waffles.

North End Tap House – grab your singing voice and join open mic night at North End Tap House for fantastic beers, ciders, and seltzer locally brewed in the Tampa Bay area with a deli-style menu of sandwiches and snacks. It's a great place to spend a weekend with friends.

What do Locals Have to Say?

"Gulfport is a hidden gem. A little arts town with a beach on Boca Ciega Bay and just a bike ride (sidewalks the whole way) to St. Pete Beach and the Gulf of Mexico. Ride your bike the other direction (east) on the Pinellas Trail to the vibrant downtown area of St. Pete, filled with breweries, restaurants and live music. Gulfport itself has many bars and some of the best restaurants in Pinellas County. Artists and vendors line the streets First Fridays and Third Saturdays."

"I moved to Florida and initially rented in Gulfport. It was a beautiful first experience. The town is lovely, friendly people, the best place to stroll and enjoy the weather, shops and great restaurants. There is always an event, dance, festival going on. My little pup became social and happy. Only have good things to say. Keep it quirky!" - Niche.com
