More on Indian Rocks Beach Florida
Indian Rocks Beach is a city and community in Pinellas County located on the barrier island between Belleair Shore and Indian Shore, set out from Largo Florida with Clearwater Bay between the mainland and the barrier islands. The city stretches from around 10 Gulf Blvd. in the South to about 28 Avenue North and Brown Park in the north. It's home to several man-made residential peninsulas called Broken Island and Harbor Drive North. Nearly all homes on the Bayside come with a dock, boat slip, or a boathouse, and offer easy access to the harbor and the Gulf of Mexico.
Indian Rocks Beach is said to have gotten its name when a native medicine man miraculously healed his chief with the waters from a natural sulfur spring originally located in Kolb Park across from the City Hall. Early settlers saw the Indians on their way to the "rock in circle spring" and would often chance the Indians are on their way to the rocks, hence the name Indian Rocks Beach.
Indian Rocks Beach is also known as IRB for short and is home to about 4300 residents. It's considered part of the Tampa, St. Petersburg, and Clearwater Metro areas. It's nestled on the barrier island of Sand Key with 2 miles of beach and 26 public beach access points. It's home to multiple shops and restaurants, nearby attractions and parks, churches and of course residential neighborhoods. It's one of the more popular places to call home in Pinellas County.
