More About New Tampa

New Tampa is a region of western Florida that many would consider its own city. In fact, it encompasses both a 24 mi.² area that is located within the actual city limits of Tampa as well as a larger area in unincorporated Hillsborough County north of the city of Tampa.  New Tampa shares a border with the Lower Hillsborough Wilderness Preserve. New Tampa however retains a city of Tampa mailing address. The incorporated portion of New Tampa that is within the Tampa city limits is  one of the largest city neighborhoods. The northern portion of New Tampa is mostly home to families who enjoy a much more rural setting as well as older residents that love the neighborhoods charming golf communities and quiet streets. Further south in New Tampa you'll find a more dense population that is comprised of many students that attend the nearby University of Tampa.

Things to Do In New Tampa

Bruce B Downs Boulevard

This street can be considered the heart of New Tampa and serves as the neighborhood's main street. On Bruce B Downs Boulevard you'll find an abundance of dining venues, artisanal cafés, and a shopping district North of Pebble Creek. Some beloved businesses include Mrs. Jones Cupcakes, Capri Pizza, Las Palmas Café, Olivers, and Twistee Treat.

Bruce B Downs Trail/New Tampa Greenway

This is a 7 mile asphalt multipurpose trail that runs along the east side of Bruce B Downs Boulevard allowing access to this commercial area as well as runs along bridges and boardwalks over environmentally sensitive areas. Many residents in the area use the trail to access Hillsborough County is Flatwoods Wilderness Park and the Amberly Drive Loop as well as the Tampa Palms Loop. It is a great well manicured way to get in some physical activity by walking, biking, etc.

Pebble Creek Golf Club

Pebble Creek is recognized as a top golf course in the Tampa area, some would say it is a must play golf course. This course is always open to the public and combines a secluded layout and is one of Tampa's first courses with champion Bermuda greens, Australian celebration trees, and well-maintained sand bunkers.

Lower Hillsborough Wilderness Preserve

A very large wilderness conservation area that contains a series of smaller park sites managed by the Hillsborough County Conservation and Environmental Land Management Department. Parks that can be found here include Dead River Park, Flatwoods Park, John B Sergeant Park, Morris Bridge Park, Trout Creek Park, and Wilderness Park off Rode Loop Trail. This is the spot to be if you're an outdoor or wilderness lover in the Tampa area it provides countless outdoor activities that many local people have not yet discovered.

There are several residential neighborhoods within New Tampa. Development of New Tampa started in the late 1980s beginning with the establishment of the well-known Tampa Palms master-planned community.  Tampa Palms is loved for its golfing community that offers both condos and single-family homes and its location circled by the lower Hillsborough Wilderness Preserve and Lettuce Lake Park. Currently there are more than 10 well-planned neighborhoods in New Tampa mostly located along Bruce B Downs Boulevard and in the northern part of New Tampa that is located in the Hillsborough County region. Some neighborhoods to the north include Hunter's Green and Pebble Creek with several single-family homes that offer a more rural feel lifestyle without sacrificing quick and convenient access to the shopping and dining of New Tampa. There is an affordable home for every price point in New Tampa from the low 100,000 for a condo home in the south end near the University and up to over $1 million for a quiet master-planned community estate in the north.

Schools 

The schools serving the very large area of New Tampa are all part of the Hillsborough County Public Schools District. Some of the many schools that serve the area include Hunters Green Elementary School, Pride Elementary School, Heritage Elementary School, Turner Elementary, Benito Middle School, and Wharton High School.
